A message for parents or past CCY campers. We are trying to get at least 1 rucksack, 2 if possible, put together for any future CCY who would like to do their tests in future, and rather than have the expense of sorting it all out, we thought we could have equipment stored so that it may be borrowed as required. Please let us know if anybody can help out.
Last reminder, for now. At Mayday bank holiday Ruthin, we are going to arrange normal sports day, but also, if anybody is interested we'd like to try and resurrect the carnival again. We thought of fun stalls that we've had in the past, along with other tables where campers may like to sell their own goods, sort of a table top sale. If anyone would be interested in taking part with this could they let us know so that we have an idea of whether its worth doing or not.

More CCY good news

CCY membership for 12-17 year olds will now be free from 1st April 2009.  It was previously priced at 5 a year.

CCY members aged 18-20 years who pass their Youth Test before their 18th birthday will still pay just 5 for their membership.

The subscription for Senior Youth members aged 21 to 29 years will be 18.

In addition, CCY members can now camp on UK Club Sites at child rates until the age of 21, so long as they've passed their Youth Test before their 18th birthday.


Useful recipes for CCY test from Alan and Verity

Chop apple put in pan with sugar and water cook until soft.

Cinder Toffee
cup of sugar knob of butter ltsp Bicarbonate of soda Melt butter in a pan then add sugar Heat until it melts and then add Bicarb take off the heat and keep stirring until sugar froths' up the pour on to grease proof paper and allow to cool.

Rocky Road Pudding

1 Packet instant chocolate pudding milk
or walnut Mini Marshmallows Mix instant chocolate as per instructions leave to stand as per instructions, stir in nuts & marshmallows.

Banana puffs

2 Ripe bananas 1009 Self-raising flour % ts lemon juice 7z ts castor sugar- 1ts cinnamon jam
bananas with 100 g of castor sugar and lemon juice, add flour and mix to a thick paste. Heat oil in a small pan to smoking point. then turn heat to low. Use 2 teaspoons to push one teaspoon of dough into the oil, doing no more than 6 at a time. Turn puffs over and keep turning for 2 minutes.
Remove with
a slotted spooll, drain and roll in cinnamon and sugar. Serve with jam.

Uncooked Cookies
cups of sugar % cups of milk 1009 margarine 3 cups of oats (quick)
tb coco % nuts or coconut lts vanilla
sugar, milk and margarine together in a saucepan and bring to a rolling boil; boil for one minute.
together oats. cocoa, nuts or coconut, and vanilla.
Pour the liquid over,
and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let set until firm.

Pork and paprika one pot.

1 Pork loin steak Vz onion Vztsp paprika
yellow pepper I large potato small can chopped
Chicken stock cube water A little oil

Season the pork, cut into bite size pieces Chop pepper, onion and potato into small pieces
stir fry pork in a little oil for a few minutes till brown, add the paprika pepper onion potatoes, tomatoes and stock and bring to the boil
Cook gently on a low heat stirring occasionally until the potatoes and pork are cooked

Spring Chicken

Vz onion chicken breast 3 new potatoes small piece of broccoli
pois 2 spring onion 2 tbsp pesto stock cube

chop and prepare the chicken and vegetables
Cook chicken and onion in the veg oil until brown.
Add the stock cube and 300 m1 of water and bring to the boil. Add the potatoes and cook until nearly soft. Add
the pettits pois and broccoli and cook until soft. And the pesto and heat through.

Mexican Chilli

250gr Mince VzOnion pepper tomatoes
Packet of precooked rice Small tin of kidney beans packet of Chilli Con car ne mix

Chop veg. Cook mince and onion until brown add the pepper and half the Chilli mix. Cook for 3-4 mins and then add kidney beans. Cook for a further 2 mins and then add rice. Cook until rice is warm.

Sweets or Desert


1 cup of plain flour 1 cup of milk I egg lt sp of Bicarb
baking soda l tbs oil

Add all to a container and mix until smooth. Heat frying pan add some of the batter and cook until top starts to set then flip and cook for approx l min

Caramel Banana

1 Banana 50g Sugar water

Thinly slice banana put sugar and water and banana in pan and cook until browned.

Stewed apple

l apple sugar water

Chicken Jambalaya

I chicken breast
teaspoon of garlic paste
yellow pepper

l tsp of Tabasco sauce

salami 1 onion

I celery stick 1 green chilli

1 packet precooked rice t/z pint chicken stock

I small tin chopped tomatoes seasoning

Peel and chop onion, chop celery, deseed pepper and chop, deseed & chop chilli (wash hands). Chop chicken

into pieces. Heat frying pan and add chicken & onions and fry until brown, add chilli, pepper, garlic and fry

until soft. Stir in rice, tomatoes and chicken stock and simmer for 15 minutes.

Good pinch of chilli, V+freshred chilli or tabasco sauce

Peel and chop the onion roughly chop the bacon and sausages, peel and dice the carrot and potato, chop the

tomato. Add a little oil to a pan cook the onion until soft. Add the sausage and bacon fry until sausage is

brown stir in the carrots, potato and chopped tomatoes add a little water if needed, cover and simmer for 15

minutes until sausage and potatoes are cooked. Add the baked beans, chilli and heat through for 4-5 mins. Taste

and add salt and pepper if needed

2 Sausages

Small tin baked beans

1 small potato

2 rashers bacon.

Chicken portion

l tomato

I small carrot




Small bit of butter (marg or oil)


Packet of cooked rice


Sachet of Chinese sauce Chicken or tuna portion

Wash and finely chop veg and chicken/tuna. With bit of oil fry chicken/tuna until brown add all veg and fry

until soft add noodles and sauce and cook until hot.

Pork Chop

Chop potato into cubes, chop onion & cabbage. Dice the apple. Fry Pork chop & potatoes until brown (about 5

mins). Add apple and onion cook for 2 mins, lift chop and add cabbage replace chop couer Cook for 8 mins.

Chicken Curry

Curry powder as per instructions on carton

Chop onion, tomato, carrot & potato. Roughly chop chicken. Fry onion and chicken in a little oil until brown

and mix in curry powder. Add tomato and bit of water then add potato, rice and carrot. Cover and simmer until

potatoes are soft.



Spaghetti Bolognese

1409 Mince V+ Onion I Carrot

VzPepper 1 small tin of chopped tomatoes

Italian Seasoning Small amount of spaghetti Water

Chop onion, carrot and pepper. Brown off onion and mince and drain off fat. Add onion, pepper Seasoning and

tomatoes and water. Break spaghetti into small pieces and add to pan. Simmer until carrot and spaghetti are


Chicken Fajitas

1 Chicken portion I Pepper

1 Packet of Fajita mix I Tomato

1 Packet of tortilla



Cut chicken, pepper onion thinly. Chop tomato in to small chunks. Fry chicken in oil add onions, pepper and

tomato. Add Fajita mix and water simmer until chicken is cooked.

Chicken Pot Roast

1 Chicken Portion r/rOnion 1 Carrot

l Potato Mushrooms Seasoning

Chicken Stock Cube Water

Cut chicken into bite size pieces. Peel and chop potatoes, onions carrots and mushrooms. Brown off chicken in

a bit of oil and add onions. Add potatoes, carrots and mushrooms and add stock cube and water. Simmer until

potatoes are soft and season to taste.

Student chicken

1 Chicken Portion rAOnion Vzpepper Mushrooms Seasoning I packet of chicken soup

7z Precooked rice Water

Dice chicken, onion, pepper and mushrooms then fry until cooked. Add packet soup and,Vzthe recommended

water and heat until chicken is cooked and sauce has thickened. Add rice and cook until rice is hot.

red pepper V+ onion courgette mushrooms dried rosemary 1 ts mustard

ltbl Honey water

Mix mustard, honey and rosemary with water. Cut up chicken and vegetables . Cook the chicken and veg until

soft and fully cooked. Pour over the sauce and cook for a further minute stirring all the time.

Chicken and lemon one pot.

1 chicken breast small handful green beans Mushrooms

Vzonion Pepper lemon sauce

lpacket of precooked rice Water

Chop chicken and vegetables into small pieces

Add a little oil to a pan and fry chicken and onions till lightly brown

add the vegetables and cook for 1 min add the sauce and cook for a further 2 mins add rice and cook until rice is hot and serve.
